Cascadilla Academy opened in 1840, the headmaster position being descended down through the generations to the age old son of a son rule. However, that was not the name of the timeless academy, for from the very beginning it had been known as Holbrook Academy. Just 5 short years later, the Ireland famine started. The school remained open for a little over six months after it hit, but quickly ran out of money to continue educating the young pupils of the 40's. The Holbrook family decided to shut it down, having run dry of both resources and enthusiasm for continuing on with the school.
In 1958, John Cascadilla saved the old school and bought the old building just 4 years after moving to Ireland from America. His dream would blossom of making others' minds taught with knowledge and inspiration, but that plan was soon thwarted because you needed to have certain qualifications that the poor old man could not deal on his own. John had the money, but did not have the power or leeway in this new country so he hired on a man by the name of Jason Briggs. A money hungry, good for nothing butte...but John was not aware of that fact. This is what would have made the difference, had he known what type of man he had chosen to run his school. Cascadilla's name was on the deed and the building, but it was ran by Briggs rules and teachings. The once profound and prominent school had turned into a delinquent playground, only one thing was different than the average crime stricken schools...you had to pay to attend.
